Why Momentum Africa?

More often, the world looks down on Africa with pettiness and contempt and many of the continent’s countries often get negative coverage or not altogether. Moreover, major media and mass communication do not put the spotlight on the successful African leaders. This show is to highlight the amazing stories of African leaders that are providing their great contributions to the world community. Momentum Africa therefore believes that there are abundance of African’s success stories in diverse business sectors that can share their talents and knowledge with the world. Once unearthed these leaders can become role models to our current and future leaders who can act as catalysts in solving African problems and empower their own communities..  

In summer of 2009 while I was still fresh from college, I lived in Washington D.C. doing an internship at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. On one of that summer day, I decided to visit a family friend and congressman at his office at the capitol hill. There, he introduced me to a great civil right icon. This icon was the late congressman John Lewis with whom I exchanged brief chat at the time. Though this encounter was very brief, it left an everlasting impression about him as a leader. Just seeing someone who looks like you in a powerful place of power. I was already inspired and excited to do my own part in the world. The more I thought about the encounter, the more I felt and convinced myself that we need more of this kinds of positive exposure particularly for our youth to become great leaders and be inspired by the late congressman John Lewis. Therefore, I decided to start this podcast showcasing successful African leaders in position of leadership. Momentum Africa idea is born due to insufficient showcasing of successful African leaders in the mainstream public domain and professional industries. The podcast provide space for those demographics to share their opinions and amazing stories with our public audience so as to positively influence our young leaders to step forward to become great leaders and be changes of agents in Africa.
