Hashem Mekki has been a human rights activist advocating for change in the Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan. Mr. Mekki has spoken on numerous occasion on radio, an wrote articles, and spoke at churches, Synagogues, high schools, and university campuses in America.

United Nations Plaza Rally, Genocide in the Nuba Mountains and Darfur, New York, NY 9/2011
Acted as Master of Ceremonies (MC) for a three hour event that was organized by Nuban-American community members in the United Nations Plaza venue, New York City. This event was sponsored and supported by the American Jewish World Service, New York Darfur Coalition, Humanity United, and Sudan Now.
Presented over 20 speakers of different nationalities and faith based groups to deliver speeches in support of the Nuba people and denouncing the barbaric acts of the Sudanese regime .

Delivered a speech on behalf of the American-Nuban Community denouncing the Sudanese government aggression against the people of Darfur, the Nuba Mountains, Abyei, and Blue Nile, all of which are marginalized areas of Sudan.
